Chocolate Easter nests

easter-nests

My friend Katherine passed on a really yummy and really easy chocolate Easter nest recipe . It takes about five minutes, and this will make about 13 sticky little nests.

Chocolate Easter nests recipe

1. Cut up three Mars bars and melt them, with 40g of butter
2. Once melted tip in some cornflakes.  I used about four big handfuls. You want to be able to stir it all in until all the flakes are covered. There’s no great science to it
3. Put a spoonful of the nest mixture into a fairy cake case, and top with two mini-eggs. Add a little chick if you have one.

Have a great Easter!

Blue clip with a rose

blue-hair-clip

After thinking about hats all day I decided to rustle up a fancy comb to wear on Easter Sunday. This one is a standard clear comb wrapped with thin sheer ribbon, then I made a silk ribbon rose and added a tiny crystal butterfly.

Mad hatter

I’ve been dying to see the Hats: An Anthology exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. It’s curated by Stephen Jones (I’d give up cupcakes in exchange for one of his creations), so I was in hat heaven when I went to see it the other day. In this video interview Jones gives an insight into the life cycle of one of his hats:

The thing that excited me most was seeing the hat/fascinator Sarah Jessica Parker wore to the premiere of Sex and the City: The Movie. There were some quirky bonnets and amazing feather creations which I loved, but to me, SJP’s little beauty is about as perfect as headwear gets.

There is also this great video of Deborah Miller, head of model millinery workroom at Stephen Jones, creating one of Jones’ most famous hats. She makes it look so easy!

Cheeky cupcake

Just as I was about to leave work I was given this cheeky pink chap by my colleague Adele. It got shared around the office as everyone was very envious. Check out her Flickr for more fun photos - she does a great photo of the day set.

Eat cupcakes

eat-cupcakes

You may remember I said my friend Emma recommended cupcakes from Eat. Well now I do too, as I popped down to my local Eat at lunchtime and tried the chocolate cupcake. It was good.

Beautiful daffodils

Chelsea Fuss daffodil brunch

Daffodils are by far my favourite flowers, which is lucky, because they are all out having a spring-time party right now. I’m really impressed by this beautiful table display and bouquets Chelsea Fuss designed for the Once Wed Table Trends series - she explains how to do it without it sounding totally impossible, plus it’s a real bargain. Imagine serving up a slice of lemon tart with this as your backdrop…

Who doesn’t love pretty post?

oh-hello-friend

I always get so excited to get real post. Bills and junk mail are just such a let-down. So imagine my glee to find a package containing some necklaces from Danni of Oh Hello Friend’s etsy shop. They arrived so beautifully packaged I wanted to share it. Go check out her shop as it’s packed with cute bits and pieces.

I discovered her after reading an interview on Darling Dexter which is well worth a read.

I really wanna cupcake

lolas-cupcakes

Photos: Lola's Kitchen

Sometimes I’m sitting at my desk at work and have an absolute craving for a cupcake. It’s like an “if I don’t eat one right now I think I’ll collapse on the floor” type craving. Unluckily for me I actually have to do some work, rather than enjoy afternoon tea, but my friend Emma knows how desperate this urge is and often emails me suggestions for great bakeries. Her latest hot tip is the Eat raspberry vanilla sponge cupcake, which I think I need to try. It would be rude not to.

So anyway, Emma was a real champion and went to Lola’s Kitchen to buy four sweet cupcakes for us to take to our friend Claudia’s for the weekend. How nice is that?! Anyway, they are so scrummy you can’t believe it, they are just amazing. You can get them in Selfridges and Harrods, as well as their shop in Primrose Hill. So if you come to London go and get one, you won’t be disappointed. (I had one with an Oreo on top, which you can see in the top right photo above. Oh. My. God. It was like heaven in an edible form.)

A Most Curious Party

Rebecca-Hoh-Hale

Rooting around in car boot sales for cute teacups is one of my favourite hobbies. But my love for vintage crockery pales into insignificance next to my friend Becky. She collected mountains of beautiful pieces for her vintage-themed wedding last July, and rather than let it sit unused she is putting it all to good use by hiring it out through her new business, A Most Curious Party.

She’s got a great eye for cute pieces and you can use them out for parties, weddings, even picnics! So if you like polka dot tea pots, home made bunting and chintz cake plates, get yourself over there!
